Atkinson Road Primary Academy, part of the Laidlaw Schools Trust, received a Good Ofsted grade, with ‘Outstanding’ Personal Development following a two-day visit.
This was the school’s first inspection since being judged to be ‘Good’ in January 2018, with the new report, released on the 27th June, confirming that it remains “Good” with an “Outstanding” grade for Personal Development.
The report adds: “Every day, staff work together with pupils at Atkinson Road to create a space where they feel safe and special. Pupils receive a warm, friendly welcome from the moment they arrive at school. Those new to the school, including pupils who arrive from overseas, quickly become part of this caring school family.
“The ambition for pupils’ wider personal development is outstanding. Pupils access a vast array of opportunities beyond more formal lessons. Leaders have thought carefully about the exemplary experiences they provide for pupils to support them in developing their character, talents and interests.”
The school places great emphasis on life skills and employability so provides a wide range of sporting, musical and other exciting clubs, trips and events outside of the classroom.
They highlighted the fact that,” Leaders seamlessly plan the school curriculum from the provision for two-year-olds through to Year 6. Pupils experience a rich curriculum that develops their understanding and vocabulary from the earliest years of their education”.
Lisa Macaulay, Head Teacher, commented: “The praise that everyone, who is part of our Atkinson Road family, has received for the outstanding personal development of our children is very well deserved. I am extremely privileged to lead such a creative and dynamic staff team who have worked hard to provide the very best education and life experiences for our amazing children.
We will continue to develop and ensure that we give our families the best that is available. Our generous sponsor, Lord Laidlaw, helps make all this possible.
“It is a fabulous achievement for everyone who is part of Atkinson Road and the Laidlaw Schools Trust that we continue to be a ‘Good’ and improving school.
Sally Newton, co-CEO and Director of Education at the Laidlaw Schools Trust commented: “We are incredibly proud of our staff, pupils, and families at Atkinson Road Primary Academy for their recent Ofsted report.
“Atkinson Road embodies our mission to transform lives through extraordinary education with their aspirational and exciting curriculum, as well as their fantastic support for pupils’ broader personal development.”
