Out Now: Laidlaw Foundation Annual Review 2023/2024

,

The Laidlaw Foundation is thrilled to share our Annual Review 2023/2024, showcasing a year of remarkable growth and impact across our programmes, each dedicated to leveraging the transformative power of education to reduce poverty, promote equity, and develop the next generation of ethical leaders.

“It has been another full and fulfilling year for the Foundation as each of our programmes has grown in size and impact. Enjoy reading the stories of those with whom we have had the privilege to work over the last academic year. From cradle to careers, their journeys are both deeply humbling and, in these complicated and often troubling times, profoundly uplifting.”

—Susanna Kempe, Chief Executive Officer of the Laidlaw Foundation

Our five core programmes have demonstrated remarkable development, expanding both in reach and impact, each grounded in our commitment to creating positive and lasting change in the world.

  • The Laidlaw Schools Trust welcomed three new academies and expanded access to early childhood education for all. We are committed to breaking down barriers to educational equity in the North East of England, championing innovative teaching methods, and empowering every child to reach their full potential. Our academies are achieving remarkable results, demonstrating the transformative power of education in underserved communities.
  • The Leadership & Research Laidlaw Scholars Programme has welcomed 423 new scholars this year and expanded to 19 top university partners, including Duke University, Imperial College London, and the University of Oxford. The programme launched the Ethical Leadership Certificate with the Oxford Character Project, empowering scholars to navigate complex challenges with integrity. Additionally, the newly formed Laidlaw Scholars Advisory Board ensures scholar voices shape the programme’s evolution and effectively address their needs.
  • The Women in Business Laidlaw Scholarship forged new partnerships with HEC Paris and IE Business School, two of the world’s top-ranked MBA programmes, to expand opportunities for women in business. By providing scholarships and mentorship to exceptional women from diverse backgrounds, we are fostering a new generation of ethical leaders who will drive gender parity and create a more equitable business landscape.
  • The Trailblazers Programme at Trinity College Dublin is supporting 20 remarkable women from disadvantaged backgrounds. Together with Trinity Access Programmes we are empowering these women to overcome obstacles, access higher education, and build fulfilling careers through scholarships, mentorship, and leadership development.
  • Laidlaw Scholars Ventures, our venture capital fund, is supporting the next generation of ethical entrepreneurs who are using their talents to create a better world. This year, we invested in Kodifly who are revolutionising urban mobility with AI. We are also proud of the progress made by our other portfolio companies, including CardiaTec, ProMotion, Sool, and Guava.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to the Laidlaw Foundation. Enjoy the read!
